Direct School Admission
What is Direct School Admission?
DSA-Sec is an initiative by MOE which was introduced in 2004 to give schools greater flexibility in student admission, so as to recognise more diverse range of student achievements and talents. Under the DSA-Sec Exercise, participating schools may select some students for admission via their own admission criteria.
Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.
Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from year 1-4.
Pei Hwa Secondary offers DSA through 6 different talent areas. We are looking for students who demonstrate interest and aptitude in these 6 talent areas:

Robotics (Programming) |
Pei Hwa Secondary School (PHSS) is committed to develop our students as innovative and compassionate citizens. As part of the effort to achieve these desirable outcomes of education, the School launched its Applied Learning Programme (ALP): Robotics and Programming since 2014. Hence, in line with its goal of nurturing talents, we are looking for committed students who demonstrate forte and aptitude in Robotics (Programming).
With the nation’s effort to improve digital literacy and encourage innovation, there is a shift in our ALP focus towards Digital Makers’ Programme where students are encouraged to tinker and create products to solve real world problems through STEM education. |
Guzheng |
Pei Hwa Guzheng Ensemble is committed to developing students’ talents and lifelong passion for the arts. Through rich and meaningful music experiences planned, the Pei Hwa Guzheng Ensemble also endeavours to help students to build character, foster friendships and cultivate a sense of belonging to the school. The Pei Hwa Guzheng Ensemble debuted in the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation in 2013. Ever since then, the Guzheng Ensemble has been achieved 5 Certificates of Distinction. The Guzheng programme includes opportunities for members to be developed as a musician through school and public performances; learning journeys to provide exposure to various performing art forms; and opportunities to interact and learn from students from other performing arts CCA and other schools. PHSS Guzheng is looking for Primary 6 students with a talent in guzheng, a passion for music and a desire to be developed in their skills and character.. |
Chinese and Modern Dance |
The Pei Hwa Dance Society has a long history of being exposed to Modern, Chinese, Hip-Hop and Malay Dance. It is our goal that in the 4 years of our dancers’ journey, they will explore various genres of dance (Modern / Chinese / Hip Hop / Jazz) in order to develop techniques that will empower them to be versatile performers on stage. Through the regular trainings and role modelling of our diligent and passionate dance leaders, and under the careful tutelage of our instructors, each member of dance society improves and hones their dance skills. In Dance Society, we expose students to as many opportunities as possible where they participate in public performances, take part in competitions and go on learning journeys. Pei Hwa Dance Society is looking for Primary 6 students with a talent and passion for dance and a desire to develop their skills and character. |
Floorball (For Girls only) |
The Pei Hwa Floorball team is a symbol of strength and renewal. Through the rigorous and comprehensive training programme, the team seeks to develop members who are skillful, good team players, demonstrate strong character and exemplify sportsmanship. On top of participating in the annual National School Games, Pei Hwa Floorball also takes part in many other competitions by external organisations and other floorball clubs. The CCA programme also includes workshops, camps and clinics for the betterment of the members. Pei Hwa Floorball has also achieved outstanding results over the years. Currently, we have Pei Hwa alumni representing their countries at the national level. The Pei Hwa Floorball team is looking for Primary 6 students with strong athletic ability, an open mind, compassionate heart and a desire to be a part of a team of passionate floorball players. |
Wushu |
Pei Hwa Wushu focuses on developing students’ confidence in body expressions through a vigorous attention on the strengthening of body and mind. The Wushu programme is a combination of contemporary Chinese martial arts with elements of performance and martial application while encouraging our students to adopt healthy lifestyles and habits and to create a sense of community and spirit of camaraderie. The Pei Hwa Wushu programme aims to develop resilient, disciplined, confident and courageous individuals through participating in Wushu competitions and performances. The Pei Hwa Wushu team is looking for Primary 6 students with strong athletic ability and a desire to be a part of a team of passionate Wushu student athletes. |
Taekwondo |
The Taekwondo programme in Pei Hwa Secondary School focuses on cultivating individual values such as Respect, Resilience and Self-discipline. Since 2007, our Taekwondo student athletes have participated in many national competitions and have done the school proud by winning individual and team event accolades. Over the years, the CCA has groomed and nurtured many talented members in both Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomsae (Pattern) and had garnered numerous medals yearly. Apart from developing our students to acquire knowledge in Taekwondo, the CCA also aims to develop desirable values such as modesty, perseverance, respect and indomitable spirit. Hence, in line with its goal of nurturing sport talents who can foster team spirit, we are looking for committed students who demonstrate forte and aptitude in Taekwondo. |
