Outdoor Activities Club (ODAC)

Pei Hwa Outdoor Adventure Club (ODAC) offers our students the opportunity to engage in a wide range of outdoor activities and training programmes that are designed to develop their skills and inspire them to achieve their full potential. Through outdoor experiences, we aim to instill values such as perseverance and discipline, while also fostering an appreciation for nature and our urban surroundings.
Our club is open to students who are willing to step out of their comfort zones and challenge themselves. Through a series of tasks and challenges, our members learn to work together as a team and to innovate in order to solve problems effectively. The ODACians also get to learn useful skills such as orienteering, campcraft, and outdoor cooking, while taking part in activities that promote fitness development. These experiences require members to adapt and communicate well with one another, allowing them to develop important soft skills while also earning certificates for their achievements.
At ODAC, we are committed to exploring options that help our students develop important outdoor skills in a holistic manner. Guided by our motto "One for All, All for One", we are proud to be one big family that celebrates and embraces each other's differences. Overall, ODAC offers an excellent opportunity for students to grow and learn in a supportive and challenging environment. We encourage all students who are interested in outdoor adventure and personal development to join us and become part of our community.

Student Testament
“When I first joined ODAC, I was a quiet and reserved Secondary 1 student who rarely stepped out of my comfort zone. Although I had successfully appealed into the CCA, I was unsure of what to expect. Back then, I simply thought ODAC was a CCA centred around hiking, camping and outdoor adventures. Looking back now, I can confidently say that joining ODAC was one of the best decisions I have made during my secondary school journey.
From my very first session, I was warmly welcomed by my seniors and peers. Despite being shy and hesitant, I never felt left out. Their constant encouragement and support helped me gradually open up and gain confidence. Through them, I learnt the true meaning of ODAC's motto, "One for All, All for One." It is not merely a motto but a value that every member embodies. In ODAC, everyone looks out for one another and no one is left behind.
Whether someone is struggling during training, finding a skill difficult to master, or simply feeling discouraged, there will always be seniors, peers and teachers ready to lend a helping hand. This strong sense of camaraderie is what makes ODAC feel more like a family than just a CCA.
Beyond learning outdoor skills, ODAC has provided me with countless opportunities to challenge myself and grow. Through training sessions, camps, competitions, certifications and outdoor expeditions, I have stepped beyond my comfort zone and discovered strengths that I never knew I had. Every experience taught me valuable lessons in resilience, teamwork, responsibility and perseverance. While some activities were physically demanding and pushed me to my limits, overcoming these challenges gave me a greater sense of confidence and accomplishment.
ODAC has also played a significant role in shaping me into the person I am today. Over time, I transformed from a shy student into someone who is more confident, willing to take initiative and prepared to take on leadership responsibilities. The support and trust that my seniors, teachers and peers placed in me inspired me to believe in myself and strive to do the same for others.
Today, as President, I hope to lead by example and create a welcoming environment where every member feels valued, supported and empowered to grow. While the role comes with many responsibilities and challenges, I am motivated by the guidance and encouragement that I have received throughout my journey. Just as my seniors once helped me find my confidence, I hope to inspire and support my juniors in discovering their own potential.
I am deeply grateful to my teachers, seniors, peers and juniors for making my ODAC journey such a meaningful one. ODAC has given me lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, valuable life skills and the confidence to embrace new challenges. These are lessons and experiences that I will continue to carry with me long after I leave secondary school.”
"Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try." President 2026, Teo Xue Ting
“My experience in ODAC has been one of the most memorable and meaningful chapters of my secondary school life. In fact, ODAC was one of the main reasons why I wanted to join Pei Hwa Secondary School, and it was the only CCA that truly caught my interest. Therefore, I am incredibly grateful that my appeal into the CCA was successful after not being posted to it initially.
When I first joined ODAC in Secondary 1, I was extremely introverted and physically unfit. Coming from a Drama Club background in primary school, the world of outdoor adventure was completely new to me. I often struggled to keep up during training sessions and felt left behind as my fitness level and practical skills were not as strong as those of my teammates. Learning new outdoor skills while coping with the rigorous physical training was challenging, and there were times when I doubted whether I could keep up.
However, my passion for ODAC motivated me to persevere. Inspired by the people around me, I gradually developed a love for running and began training consistently in my own time. By Sec 2, I had significantly improved my fitness and confidence. As a result, CCA sessions became even more enjoyable because I was able to participate more actively, take part in competitions and, eventually, serve as an EXCO member.
One of the things I appreciate most about ODAC is the wide variety of unique experiences it offers. Through activities such as kayaking, abseiling, orienteering, nature runs, treks and staircase climbing, I discovered interests that I never knew I had. These experiences pushed me beyond my comfort zone and helped me develop a genuine love for the outdoors. More importantly, they taught me resilience, perseverance and the courage to embrace challenges.
Beyond the activities, ODAC has given me something even more valuable — a family. Through countless training sessions, camps and shared experiences, I formed meaningful friendships and built strong bonds with my seniors, peers and teachers. Running also introduced me to a new circle of friends and brought me closer to people whom I admire and look up to, especially my fellow EXCO members. Their encouragement and support inspired me to become a better version of myself.
ODAC has transformed me from a quiet and reserved student into someone who is more outgoing, confident and willing to take on leadership responsibilities. It has equipped me with leadership skills, life skills and a growth mindset that continue to guide me today. Most importantly, it has taught me that growth comes from stepping out of our comfort zones and embracing opportunities with an open mind.
To me, ODAC was more than just a CCA. It was the highlight of every Tuesday and Friday, a place where I could relieve stress, challenge myself and spend time with people who genuinely cared for one another. It was a community where I felt supported, valued and encouraged to grow.
I will always be grateful for the opportunities, experiences and friendships that ODAC has given me. Looking back, I can confidently say that joining ODAC was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The memories, lessons and relationships I have gained will stay with me long after I leave secondary school. Most importantly, ODAC has given me a second family that I will always cherish. “ Vice President – Special Project 2025, Chong Kathleen
“ODAC has been a significant part of my secondary school life and has played a major role in shaping me into the person I am today. From learning the four basic knots and pitching a tent to navigating unfamiliar terrain and earning my first competition medal, ODAC has provided me with countless opportunities to grow and challenge myself. Through these experiences, I have become a fitter, more resilient and adventurous individual who is willing to step out of my comfort zone and pursue goals with determination.
Coming from the Board Games Club in primary school, I was definitely more of an indoor person. However, I wanted a fresh and unique experience when I entered secondary school, which led me to join ODAC. Looking back, that decision became a turning point in my life.
At the beginning, I found ODAC extremely challenging. The vigorous physical training, demanding outdoor activities and large number of new skills to learn often left me feeling overwhelmed. There were moments when I doubted myself and even considered whether I should continue. However, what kept me going was the unwavering support of my seniors. They patiently guided me through every challenge, encouraged me whenever I struggled and made me feel welcomed despite being new and inexperienced. Their kindness and dedication helped me develop a strong sense of belonging within the CCA.
As time passed, I grew to love ODAC and everything it stood for. My passion for the CCA motivated me to contribute more actively, which led me to join the Executive Committee as the Logistics IC in Secondary 2. This experience allowed me to develop my organisational and leadership skills while serving the CCA that had given me so much. Eventually, I was honoured with the opportunity to serve as President.
Being President came with its own set of challenges and responsibilities. There were many occasions where I had to make difficult decisions, lead by example and ensure that the needs of the members were met. Despite these challenges, every moment was worthwhile. Working alongside my fellow EXCO members to improve and strengthen the CCA that we all cared deeply about was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Many of them became my close friends along the way.
Beyond the outdoor skills and leadership opportunities, ODAC has taught me valuable lessons in resilience, teamwork, responsibility and perseverance. More importantly, it has shown me the importance of supporting one another and striving together towards a common goal. The friendships, memories and experiences that I have gained through ODAC are things that I will always cherish.
I am deeply grateful for the teachers, seniors, peers and juniors who have been part of my journey in ODAC and have helped me grow along the way. Looking back, I can confidently say that joining ODAC was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and the lessons I have learnt here will stay with me long after I leave secondary school.” President 2025, Zack Leow Bo Jun
“My overall experience in ODAC has been unlike any other experience I have had in school. When I first joined the CCA, I was practically at the bottom of the ladder. I struggled with many aspects of ODAC, especially the physical components such as running and push-ups. I was not particularly strong in other areas either, such as campcraft and tent pitching. At times, I found it difficult to keep up with my peers and questioned whether I was capable of meeting the demands of the CCA.
However, as time passed, I gradually adapted to the environment and culture of ODAC. Through the many enriching training sessions, camps and activities, I became more comfortable and confident. More importantly, I formed many meaningful friendships with both my seniors and juniors. The strong sense of camaraderie within the CCA made every challenge feel more manageable and every achievement more rewarding.
One of the most significant moments in my ODAC journey was being offered the role of Group IC in Secondary 3. Initially, I was hesitant to accept the position because I did not think I was capable enough. Since I was not among the fittest members in the CCA, I doubted whether I could lead others effectively. Nevertheless, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and take on the challenge.
Looking back, accepting the role was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It gave me the opportunity to grow as a leader, work closely with my fellow members and build stronger relationships within the CCA. Through the role, I learnt valuable lessons about responsibility, communication and teamwork. More importantly, I realised that leadership is not about being the strongest or most capable person in the team. It is about supporting others, setting a positive example and helping the team grow together.
Although I may not be the most physically fit member in ODAC, that never stopped me from enjoying the journey. What mattered most to me was the friendships I built, the memories I created and the experiences I shared with others. These moments made my secondary school life far more meaningful and fulfilling than any achievement could.
Without a doubt, joining ODAC was one of the best decisions I have made. It has taught me valuable life lessons, helped me discover strengths I never knew I had and introduced me to a community that I am proud to be a part of. Looking back, I can confidently say that I have no regrets joining this CCA. If I had not taken that first step, I would not be the person I am today.” Group IC 2025, Jian Yiqi
