Teaching & Learning at Pei Hwa: Engaging Hearts and Minds for the Future
At Pei Hwa Secondary School, we design learning experiences that prepare students to be Future-Ready Learners with Emerging 21st Century Competencies (E21CCs)
Our Approach: Explore. Collaborate. Create.
Our teaching is anchored in three learning habits we nurture in students:
- Explore ideas and possibilities
- Collaborate meaningfully with others
- Create solutions and new understandings
These habits guide both classroom instruction and broader learning experiences at Pei Hwa, developing E21CCs like Critical and Adaptive Thinking, Civic Literacy and Communication skills in Pei Hwa-ians.
Thoughtful Classroom Design through the Active Learning Process
Every lesson is intentionally designed through the Active Learning Process by:
- Activating learning by spark thinking and curiosity
- Promoting thinking and discussion to deepen learning
- Facilitate meaningful demonstrations of learning
- Monitor and provide timely feedback for growth
At the core of our Teaching and Learning approach are our interactions—between the learning content, students and teachers—that make learning purposeful and engaging.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Pei Hwa, we stretch learning through extensions of learning such as:
- Future Leaders Programme
- Pei Hwa Talent Academy
- Enrichment Opportunities
- Student-initiated Learning
These help students discover strengths, pursue passions, and build confidence to become Future-Ready Learners.
Driving Deeper Engagement
We support students through three key drivers:
STEP UP with EdTech
We use technology purposefully to personalise learning, foster creativity, and extend students’ learning beyond the classroom. Digital tools are not an add-on, but an integral part of helping students be better learners and collaborate more effectively.
Habits of Learning
We explicitly cultivate dispositions such as curiosity, resilience, and self-management—habits essential for lifelong learning. These are embedded across lessons and reinforced through reflection, peer learning, and teacher feedback.
PERMA
We draw from Positive Psychology to nurture student well-being and motivation. Through PERMA— Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment —we help students develop a strong sense of purpose and confidence in their learning journey.
Our Teaching and Learning approach is holistic, student-centered, and future-oriented. At Pei Hwa, we are committed to helping every child grow—not just academically, but as a confident learner ready for the world ahead.
